Game 28 Horror injury

A horror tackle on Preston's Scott Laird overshadowed the game against Notts County which ended goalless. A double footed lunge deep in injury time by County's Campbell-Ryce left the Preston full back with a broken leg, Campbell- Ryce was shown a straight red card by Referee Harrington. Laird is now out for the rest of the season, Campbell-Ryce will be back in three games.
This was a game North End should have won dominating the vast majority of the game. Their first half performance was excellent on and only some poor finishing and excellent defending stopped them from scoring.
An early Sodje header which went wide when it should have gone in set the tone. Wroe was denied by a brilliant save by County's impressive keeper Bialkowski although minutes later the Polish stopper got extremely lucky when he was dispossessed by Beavon at the edge of the penalty, Beavon cut towards the penalty spot and fired in a shot which was going in until a brilliant clearance from the line by a County defender. From the resulting corner County again cleared the ball from the line.
County had a brief period of pressure just before half time which roused the travelling faithful from their slumbers.
The second half was more even with little in the way of goalmouth incident, although Preston possibly should possibly have had a penalty when Sodje was shoved in the back although he possibly did go to ground rather easily.
County managed a couple of tame efforts by Judge but as the half progressed they were quite happy to waste time and slow the game down to a virtual standstill, then that tackle.

Preston North End 0 Notts County 0 Att 8013
