A trip to Brunton Park is like a trip back in time the ground hasn't changed since the Battle Of Hastings. They actually class this game as a local derby therefore given the intense "local" rivalry the gate of 5965 could possibly be classed as disappointing.
The PA blasted out 1980's classics from Tenpole Tudor and the Skids as the teams took the pitch, it had an almost retro feel about it.
Anyway onto the game, if Preston had left Brunton without a point it would have been an injustice, North End dominated the first half and took a deserved lead through Monakana who skillfully cut his way through the home defence before hitting a left foot shot into the net. (0-1)
North End could have doubled their lead minutes later when Wroe's goal bound shot was deflected for a corner, from the corner King was inches away from getting the second.
The game then settled down with the home side slowly coming into the game although they didn't have a sniff of a chance until the 38th minute when Hungtington gave away a needless freekick. Huntington got a bollocking from Welsh the captain and probably got one from the entire team when Carlisle equalised.
McGovern's kick was touched onto the post by keeper Stuckmann and the rebound was scrambled home by Miller. (1-1) Barely deserved for the home side.
The second half started with North End going close from Garner whose header was scrambled to safety.
Play became a bit more patchy although some crunching tackles started to go in.
Carlisle were given a major boost with 20 minutes to go when North End were reduced to 10 men when Wroe was sent off for a second yellow.
Apparently these days you are not allowed to go for 50/50 balls with the keeper, Wroe was fractionally late and off he went.
As is the case most times the 10 men looked the better side Monakana wasted a glorious chance to play in Garner by choosing to shoot instead of passing to his teammate.
Carlisle began to put the visitors under pressure but until the latter stages of injury time didn't create anything, then in the dying embers of the game Stuckmann had to make to good saves to keep a point.
Deserved point in the end, then in was back down the M6 back to the modern world.
